Bring the original contract to imported-worker briefings from November

From 1 November 2026, workers must bring their original Standard Employment Contract to attend the briefing. Employers should help check this beforehand.

Effective 1 November 2026 2026-11-01 · Checked 2026-10-12 · Published 2026-10-12

New official requirement

From 1 November 2026, imported workers must bring their original Standard Employment Contract to attend the briefing. This page covers the Enhanced Supplementary Labour Scheme; care workers under the residential care home scheme have separate briefing arrangements.

The existing deadline still applies

Employers must grant paid leave for attendance within eight weeks of arrival. New hires and renewals must attend under each contract. The document requirement does not extend that deadline.

BLJ advice: check the original before attendance

Check that the worker has the signed original and confirm session details before departure. If the original is unavailable, contact the Labour Department early; do not assume a copy or phone photo is an acceptable substitute.

What employers can do now

  1. Check whether attendance falls on or after 1 November 2026.
  2. Prepare the original Standard Employment Contract in advance.
  3. Check official registration and session details, and keep attendance records.
